Our Building

The Mercantile Library Center for Fiction’s beautiful, historic building was built in 1932. It was designed by Henry Otis Chapman.

Space Rentals


The Library rents its Reading Room to non-profit and profit-making organizations for a variety of purposes, including lectures, meetings, receptions, cocktail parties, and cultural events.

Space:The Library's Reading Room is the main rental space, measuring 20' by 80'. The room holds up to 80 people. It has mahogany tables and chairs with leather seats. All lights have dimmers on them to create a pleasant atmosphere.

Equipment:: In addition to the leather chairs already in The Reading Room, the Library can supply up to 75 folding chairs, which are included in the rental fee. Lectern, microphone and speakers, projector, vcr/dvd player, projection screen, 6-foot tables and coat racks are also available for the renter's use at an additional cost. Kitchen facilities are not available.
